Deadliest Natural Disaster - ChennaiRains

The Skymet data suggests that Chennai received1218.6 mm of rain during late November and early December. Research also suggests that this amount of rainfall was thrice Chennai’s normal monthly rainfall thus resulting to a very heavy downpour. Current news channels live have clearly showed the effects of the Chennai floods just as explained below.

A multitude of people were left homeless because their homes were destroyed by the rains. In connection to this, a lot of people lost their lives as they were swept away by the floods. Major factories, organizations, business entities and offices were also shut down. Most employees could therefore not report to work and this has greatly affected the economic status of Chennai. Airports were also paralyzed hence affecting the tourism, transport and trade sector adversely. 

Rivers – the sources of domestic water – became dirty as a result of disposal of garbage by the Chennai rains. Nonetheless, infrastructure like roads and communication facilities were rendered useless by these floods. This greatly affected the transport and communication sector in Chennai.

It is true that natural disasters like floods are NOT and will NEVER be attributed to anyone’s fault. However, it is also true that prevention is better than cure and therefore, the government of Chennai is alert from this deluge and create safety measures that can help prevent all the afore-mentioned havoc.
